well, i know what she won’t be wearing…

Little girls everywhere have learned that their fairy tale dreams CAN come true….ok, maybe not just the little girls of the world, but the older gals too!!!

The upcoming nuptials between Miss Kate Middleton, I mean (insert lame British accent here) Katherine Middleton and Prince William, have not only excited monarchy supporters in the UK, but onlookers everywhere, including the fashion enthusiasts of the world.  This IS the wedding of our generation and I’m happy that my upcoming vacation in London  just happens to coincide with the future King’s big day.

While I’m counting down the minutes until my departure, i’m also entirely sick of hearing all the tweets and posts and articles of  the “what will she be wearing down the aisle?” speculation. I just need to say to those dying of curiosity, that a little patience can do one wonders.  In other words:  just leave it alone and wait until April 29th like everyone else!  What a shame it would be if Katherine’s gown were to be leaked to the public for the sake of a media exclusive,  not to mention the bad luck if Wills were to see it before their big day! (tsk, tsk)…. we all know the British Monarchy can’t afford anymore bad luck when it comes to wedding superstitions.

In light of all the dress speculation out there, here are a few gowns we know she won’t be wearing…..

Louise Roe via the Coveteur

If you’re anything like me, you watched in awe when Dean Proffitt built Joanna Stayton that closet in her yacht and thought: when I’m older, I’m gonna get a hunky handyman to build me a dream closet in my yacht one day ….. Then, the 90′s came and brought us that upgraded epic mechanical closet equipped with the “high tech” touch screen, belonging to the now iconic character, Cher, in Clueless. Now that we have MTV cribs, HGTV, reality shows, and abundant reading material in magazines and blogs, getting a sneak peek into the interiors of others (in a non-creepy way that is) is readily available for instant inspiration.

One of the things I love about Louise Roe’s closet (below), as seen on The Coveteur ‘s most recent installment, is that I imagine it looks exactly like she left it last:  no MTV producer, or personal assistant, or housekeeper to line up, color coordinate, or categorize her shoes, bags, and clothes.  While an organized, type A, obsessive-compulsive personality might break out into hives at the mismatched hangers, I find this quite charming and relatable.   Don’t get me wrong – I would love a spacious, organized, functional closet to call my own – but first things first –  I’ll need someone to buy me a place…..preferably with a big walk in closet already filled with clothes, bags and shoes ok???  OK….. that might be asking for too much – you can leave out the shoes as I’d prefer to try them on before buying first!

line I love: Fallon

One of my favorite accessory lines is Dana Lorenz’s FALLON, which is her diffusion line from her main, and quite successful collection, FENTON . Always current – and absolutely gorgeous! Definitely worth the investment if you ask me!  Available at most major retailers (Holt Renfrew included) and online at ssense.com.

Fashion is expensive.  Style is not. Some of the most stylish girls I know are certainly not the wealthiest.”

Japan

In light of the devastating events unfolding in Japan, and the fact that I cannot pull myself away from any information I can get a hold of on tv….on the web…..on twitter or facebook….I just haven’t found anything else to be of interest at the moment.  Then I saw on twitter that fashiontoast’s Rumi was in Tokyo when the 9.0 earthquake changed the lives of so many in Japan.   Rumi has subsequently posted her first hand experience on her blog.  Click here to read her post. (Glad you got home safe Rumi!)

This is a photo I took at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park during my visit in May 2010. The thousands of origami cranes pay homage to those who lost their lives when the atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima  and Nagasaki at the end of World War II in 1945.  My experience at the Hiroshima museum was both heartbreaking and humbling and it is no wonder why the Japanese community continues to stay as resilient as they are.

May the spirit of the people continue to stay strong, the families who are still looking for their loved ones find a happy ending and some closure, and a swift resolution be found with respect to the current nuclear instability in Fukushima.

If you would like to make a donation to the recovery efforts in Japan, please make a donation to the Canadian Red Cross, World Vision Canada, UNICEF, or The Humanitarian Coalition, and continue to to send your positive thoughts to the people of Japan.
